Pinturas en acrílico y esmalte sobre lienzo y papel
En el año 2006, la artista, toma la decisión de retirarse de su trabajo en el sector ejecutivo muy cansada por el estrés y las luchas del poder, se aleja de la gran ciudad y decide radicarse en Roldadillo (Valle, Colombia), algo vital para el inicio de su creación artística.
María Teresa viene construyendo un proyecto de vida muy ligado a la espiritualidad, lleva 15 años estudiando Espiritualidad Práctica lo que ha sido vital para el cambio de rol en su vida, en el que prevalece la búsqueda de su felicidad. Desde el año 2006inicia el trabajo de su obra, realizando muchos estudios y bocetos para encontrar un tema y enfrentarse al lienzo con algo contundente, fue así como nació esta propuesta de querer plasmar este mundo tan materialista que ha abandonado la esencia misma del ser humano.
Para María Teresa era necesario plasmar su obra a través del mundo figurativo, estudió mucho el arte pop, con sus elementos cotidianos y desarrolló su primera PROPUESTA que ha titulado “SER”, donde sus modelos siempre están bien vestidos, relucientes, pero sus cuerpos son difusos, etéreos, tratando de hacernos caer en cuenta de esta gran confusión en la que vivimos al darle mayor prevalencia a lo material por encima del ser, donde valoramos más por lo que tenemos que por lo que somos.
Los personajes que pinta salen del mundo del consumo, de los modelos que nos invitan a comprar y a actuar de cierta manera. Para la ejecución de la obra María Teresa utiliza el color fuerte, y es el esmalte y el acrílico con los que trabaja su obra sobre lienzo y papel.

In the year 2006, this artist makes the decision to abandon her job after being consumed by stress and constant struggle for power in the executive world. She leaves the city life and decides to move to Roldanillo (Valle, Colombia); this will be the beginning of her artistic career.
Maria Teresa has been developing a life project tied to self consciousness; she has been studying Practical Spirituality for the past fifteen years and this proved vital to assess the role change in her life and her search of happiness. In the same year, she begins to work in her art by trying many concepts and studies to finally confront painting on linen with a definite theme; that’s what gave birth to the proposal of reflecting the material world in her paintings, world that has abandoned the essence of the human being.
It was necessary for Maria Teresa to give expression to her art through a figurative world; she studied Pop Art with its quotidian world and developed her first proposal which she has named “SER” (Spanish for “Being”). The models in these paintings are always well dressed and glittering but their bodies are diffusive, ethereous, trying to make us realize the great confusion that we live in, prevailing in the material world over the self consciousness and always giving more importance to what we have and not to what we are.
The characters in her paintings come out of the consumerist world, from the models that invite us to purchase a product or behave in certain way. Maria Teresa uses strong colors for her paintings were enamel and acrylics are the base of her work over lien and paper.
